Handyperson Service

What is the Handyperson Service?

The handyperson service is a reative small repairs service operated by Care & Repair Rhondda Cynon Tâf.  The service is funded by Rhondda Cynon Tâf County Borough Council Private Sector Housing Unit.  We have 3 handypersons based at the office who are able to do small repairs, home improvements or just move furniture.  We also use a list of reputable contractors who  undertake works. 

Who is eligible for this service?

Clients who are eligible for the service have to be over 70 years of age be a homeowner or PRIVATE tenant with a limited amount of savings.

(Tenants of Council properties are not eligible.)

How can the service be accessed?

If you are interested in accessing the service you should contact Care and Repair RCT, who will arrange for a case officer to visit and assess the works required.  They will then determine how best to process the application and/or if works are not suitable offer alternative services or advice.

What work can be undertaken?

The work could include:

  • Unblocking drains;
  • Reairing guttering, down pipes and fascias*;
  • Clean guttering;
  • Replace roof tiles/slates;
  • Minor draught proofing;
  • Minor joinery works;
  • Minor plumbing works;
  • Minor electrical works (wiring plugs, fuses, changing light bulbs, replacing batteries in smoke detectors);
  • Fitting door bells;
  • Fitting safety chains/security locks;
  • Fitting smoke detectors;
  • Small amounts of tiling (wall and floor);
  • Fixing kitchne cabinets;
  • Fitting curtain rails;
  • Minor path and step repairs;
  • Minor roof repairs;
  • Washing line repairs;
  • Garden and path clearance;
  • Grab-rails;
  • UPVC door and window repairs;

*All repairs will be subject to extent of works involved.

 

Safety at Home & Rapid Response Adaptations Programme

If you are in hospital or have recnely left hospital or need work at your home to avoid being admitted to hospiotal or residential care, we have the above two services that may be of assistance.  Explain your circumstances and we will advise on your options.

How can the service be accessed?

Clients will need to be referred by any one of the following:

  • Care & Repair Agency Manager
  • Senior Care & Repair Officer
  • RCT Grants Officers
  • RCT Environmental Health Officers
  • RCT Community Services Officers
  • FHIS Operations Manager
