Can I swap homes with another tenant?
Normally, you will have the right to swap homes with another housing association tenant or with a council tenant.
Before you do so you must get our written permission, however, we will only refuse if a limited number of grounds apply. We may give permission but also insist that any rent owing is paid up.
Cynon Taf Community Housing Group has teamed up with HomeSwapper which is a FREE service to our tenants who are looking to move home. The service is designed to help you find another tenant who will swap with you.
HomeSwapper is a register of thousands of tenants throughout the UK who are looking to move home, so if you wish to move locally or further afield then this service will assist you in finding a suitable exchange.
To register, log on to www.homeswapper.co.uk. Your application will first have to be approved by us then you will be provided with full access to the site so you view information on tenants of other landlords who wish to move and you can start getting in touch with possible matches for an exchange.
If you do not have a computer at home you can use a computer that we have available here at our office or you can use your local library which may have free internet access for the public.
Alternatively, if you have found another tenant who you wish to swap homes with then contact us and we will send you an application form. Simply fill in the form and return it to us and your Housing Officer will deal with your application.
A word of WARNING!
If you swap your home with another tenant, you will take over their tenancy. This may change your status and your rights and will lead to you having all the tenancy responsibilities and obligations of the other person and having to repair or replace any items for which the other tenant would have been liable.
It is therefore important that you closely inspect their accommodation and satisfy yourself that it is clean and in a good state of decoration and repair.
